Climate Change & National Security

Examining the intersection between climate change and security governance

King's College London teamed up with the University of Queensland for a special podcast mini-series on different national security aspects of climate change. Funded by the King's COP26 Engagement Fund, in the run up to the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).

The mini-series covers a range of different issues, from securitization to geoengineering. Along the way it considers drivers and obstacles of the United Nations climate change agenda, as well as different approaches that have been taken by major powers.

Underrated Ideas

Considering All Voices in Environmental Security

What is environmental security? How should we get there? Who gets to decide?

Historically, these questions have been shaped by sectors like academia, industry, media, politics, and economics. Our members from Underrated Individuals are examining stories that (re)shape our understanding and definitions of environmental security.

We'll be discussing new findings and weak signals of future trends that may change how we look at both security and the planet we live on.

We'll also be engaging with a wide range of voices, from young scholars and environmental activists, to security practitioners on the frontlines of environmental risks and workers trying to drive change in their institutions.

Most importantly, we'll be asking listeners to tell us their perspectives on the ideas that are featuring. What do you think is underrated or overrated? What do we need to see more or less of?
